Both candidates were found worthy of the endorsement, according to Mary Ann Webster, West Los Angeles Conservation Chair of the Sierra Club.
"Culver City is starting to go in the right direction, but it can do better," said Webster on behalf of the organization. "Clearly, Clarke and Sahli-Wells are the most responsive to the environmental and quality-of-life issues in Culver City. They will bring much needed new perspectives and new voices to our City Council and merit the support of the Sierra Club and of Culver City voters."
City Council candidate Meghan Sahli-Wells said she is "proud" to have the endorsement of such a well-known organization.
"That's a pretty big deal to me, and it's a great organization," Sahli-Wells said. "I think a lot of things I'm doing point toward the environment, and making sure we're leaving a healthy environment for our children and their children."
The West Los Angeles Group promotes election of environmentally sensitive candidates to public office, and maintains a working relationship with legislators and other elected officials.
